Nestled in the northwestern corner of South Carolina, this sprawling new build, designed by Scott Crichton of Architecture 224, sits right on the edge of the glittering Lake Keowee, where the homeowners traded their home in Virginia for the relaxing life of lakeside living. Since the couple was starting from the ground up on their new waterfront home, they enlisted Cantoni’s expertise for their furniture and lighting selection. They met with Cantoni designer Kohl Sudnikovich, who was introduced to the couple through a lead from one of our top Italian brands.
The couple was interested in exploring clean lines and a minimal look for their home furnishings and decor. This request, combined with Kohl’s idea for woodsy earth tones, led the finished look of the home to really emphasize on its natural, outdoor surroundings, pulling out the greens of the trees and the blues of the lake, which can be seen from multiple vantage points through the home’s expansive windows.
Stepping into the home, you’re greeted with high style that comes in the form of a wide range of custom Italian designs. In the living room, a Natuzzi Italia sectional takes center stage, along with complementing accent tables and the striking Connection cocktail table from Gallotti&Radice. Following the overall Natuzzi theme, custom ottomans grace the side of the living space, providing extra seating or a place to kick up one’s feet after a long day.
Pops of color can be found in the throw pillows and statement Autumn Rug from Dellarobbia, which was a focal point during the design process. “They were hesitant about the Autumn Rug. With its central location and abstract tree design, they thought the unique design might be pushing it,” said Kohl. “However, when the day of installation came, they absolutely loved it and were glad we went with it in the end.”
While the living room is swathed in neutral grays and rich taupes, the kitchen is the opposite. Sleek white countertops provide a light and airy feel while matching white Lem bar stools uphold the couple’s clean lines aesthetic with its low profile and elegant appearance. The dining room is the dark to the kitchen’s light, with fully upholstered Norma dining chairs in supple leather which surrounds the pièce de résistance of the space: a Cattelan Italia Skorpio Crystalart dining table, which boasts a tabletop of extra clear beveled glass with artistic decorative printing.
The master bedroom is a study in neutrals. A statement king bed dominates the space, accented beautifully by a stylish shag rug, a unique stool that doubles as a storage compartment, and a creamy Leolux chaise that overlooks stunning views of the lake. The guest bedrooms boast similar appeal, with matching beds in different finishes, and Viera area rugs that add just the right amount of color and texture.
Overall, the home’s unique floor plan and stunning lake backdrop made the project all the better in Kohl’s eyes. “I really enjoyed working with the awesome floor plan and the natural flow of the home the most,” said Kohl. “The selection of Cantoni furniture that we picked fit with ease within the space.”
