Luxury Living Right at Sea
NEVADA-BASED HOME BUILDER BLUE HERON COLLABORATES WITH CANTONI ON A ONE-OF-A-KIND WATERSIDE PARADISE IN LA JOLLA, CALIF.
By tapping Cantoni’s extensive portfolio, the Blue Heron design team was able to furnish the entire home and choose or customize specific pieces that spoke to the neutral seaside color scheme. Kathy devised textural and inviting bedrooms and selected outdoor seating that complements—rather than competes with—indoor furnishings, making outdoor spaces a true living extension of the home.
To that end, the lower level media room is one of Kathy’s favorites. “The space is a chameleon in that it feels different during different times of the day. It can be a cozy hangout to watch movies with family or an exhilarating, high-energy entertaining area for gatherings,” she says. “When the sliding doors are open, you are surrounded by the sights and sounds of water falling down the giant water wall while sitting by the fire and looking up through the entry bridge to the sky.”
That isn’t the only exceedingly impressive area, though—the rooftop is also furnished, and holds a spa, bar, outdoor cooking space, and an area shaded by a trellis of solar panels with strategically placed outdoor TVs. Other home highlights include media, wine, and game rooms, and three theaters. One can imagine that in such a home full of thoughtfully and intentionally curated furnishings, it is hard to choose a favorite. But the Natuzzi Herman sectional in the lower level media room is a standout, Kathy says. “I needed to find something that would be beautiful from every angle while also being comfortable and holding its shape, and the Herman fit the bill.”
There was, however, a challenge throughout the design process: Blue Heron is based in Las Vegas and the new home is in California, yet Kathy needed a fast and smooth installation. “Working with Cantoni made the process completely seamless, as everything was sent directly to La Jolla in one large delivery,” she says. “The Cantoni delivery team is always second to none and goes above and beyond white glove.”
But it is the sheer selection of furnishings that keep Kathy returning to Cantoni. “The range of product offered through Cantoni is truly a designer’s dream,” she says. “In my 32 years in this industry, never have I had the ability to completely design a home with so many vendor lines from one company. If I can dream it up, Cantoni will have what I am looking for.”
