A big part about creating a successful space is the connection between designer and client, and it’s no surprise that Nicole George and Randy Whaley have it in the bag. The Whaley’s are long-time clients of Cantoni and have personally worked with Dallas designer Nicole on six residences and one commercial executive office suite. Randy is a semi-retired CEO that has developed a passion for luxury lake homes, applying his keen business skills and executive management to the process and logistics of home building.
"Randy always sends me architectural plans at the beginning stages of a project,” says Nicole. “To him, the land and view are very important and both were key to how this lot was designed and developed.” Situated on an inlet of Cedar Creek Lake, this 7,000-square-foot home boasts landscape architecture that is symphonic with its picturesque surroundings of lake and foliage, with amenities that include a custom boat dock, fire pit seating, outdoor pavilion, and a sparkling pool overlooking the lake.
Thanks to its unsurpassable location, you’re sure to enjoy unobstructed views even when inside the home. From top to bottom, you’re greeted with brilliantly lit spaces that capitalize on the home’s floor to ceiling windows and colorful scenery beyond. The landscaped procession from the driveway to the entry invites you into the grand living and dining space. This open concept environment, with culinary kitchen on the left and a show-stopping Calcutta Aries marble fireplace on the right, boasts Italian-made designs from luxury brands such as Cattelan Italia and Gamma in between.
While the living space is layered with an abundance of textural greys, the custom Aster Cucine Italian kitchen stands out with its rich Canaletto walnut wood finish. A long horizontal custom window strategically frames the kitchen, providing a refreshing focal point and plenty of natural lighting. This space was a collaboration between Randy, Nicole, and Cantoni’s kitchen, bath, and closet team. Its bespoke design is a nod toward another of Randy's residence that was built across the same lake.
In most of his residences, Randy focuses on ambient lighting, asymmetry, and a balanced layering of finishes. This home is no different with Randy’s thumbprint of unique character and the harmony of Nicole’s furniture selections and design plan. Accent walls are aplenty, with natural stone and custom wood paneling. Curated lighting can be found in the form of artfully hung chandeliers and a playful piece inspired by our solar system. Striking accessories and strategically placed sculptures with bold shapes complete the overall look.
After a year of working together on this project, Randy and Nicole are beyond pleased with the results. This lakeside getaway is the perfect destination for those looking to relax amid stylized modern interiors that only add to the home’s stunning scenery. And the best part about working on this project, according to Nicole? “Working alongside Randy again.”
