Cornish Residence by Bedra Spencer
“My decorating journey has taken over 10 years, but Bedra, my Cantoni design consultant and now friend, has been there every step of the way…and I love her for that.” Nanette Cornish
Everyone knows patience is a virtue—and that having a long-term goal usually works to one’s advantage. The principle has worked well for Houstonian Nanette Cornish. At age 22, she graduated with a BS in pharmacy, and 10 years after purchasing a dream home for her and her son, she has realized her vision for the space. The images here are the satisfying results of her ongoing collaboration with Cantoni designer Bedra Spencer.
From the beginning, Nanette explained to Bedra that she was a single mom on a budget, and that she wanted to pay off each purchase before proceeding with the next. The two met after Nanette was referred to Cantoni by another store where she couldn’t find what she had in mind. “Bedra and I hit it off from the start,” says Nanette. “She came to my home and took pictures and measurements, and had no problem when I explained that I needed to stick to a budget.”
The living room sofa was her first purchase, and that (plus a piece of art she loved), set the tone for the soft transitional look she wanted to achieve overall. “Initially, Nanette purchased a sofa, and I went to her home and gave her some ideas as to where to place it,” says Bedra. “Then she requested I help her with accessories for her living room. After that, we seemed to work so well together that we began redoing the entire home, laying out all the rooms and putting together a plan to make purchases in stages.”
Among her favorite pieces are the Laguna sectional flanked by burgundy crocodile Allure chairs (in the family room), the Bilbao sofa and chairs (in the living room) and the One and Only set in her bedroom.
The progression of this job illustrates a mind-set that all Cantoni designers adhere to: We’re about establishing relationships and delivering Triple C service—not just ringing up one-time transactions. The members of our in-house design staff, often with us for many years, are passionate about helping clients create the living spaces of their dreams. They believe in our creed, “Great Design is a Way of Life.”
In closing, Bedra says, “Working with Nanette has been an absolute pleasure. She allowed me the freedom to express my passion for design and trusted that I would be able to meet her expectations. Based on the finished project, and how happy she is with it, I believe I exceeded her expectations and created a space for her that she will treasure for years to come.”
